So my university has a class that engineers are required to take freshman year called "Enrichment Workshop." We affectionately call it "Detention," because that is exactly what it is. We are required to work on homework or study for two hours a week, under supervision, with the threat of not graduation if we miss more than one week each semester. Obviously it is loads of fun.
Since I don't procrastinate as much as I used to, I usually don't have much work to do during Detention, and I realized today that it may be a good time for me to get on here once a week and spill my thoughts out. (I also realized today that all three of my followers are my dad, but thats beside the point).
So onto the fun stuff. Yay!
For future reference, I will use DND, dungeons and dragons, PFRPG, and Pathfinder interchangeably as I see fit.
This past saturday was the first session for the Pathfinder (effectively dungeons and dragons for you non-nerds) campaign that I am running for my friends. Now mind you, DND is by far my favorite hobby, and I haven't had the chance to play it for a few months after our last campaign died violently! Sadly, I am running the campaign instead of playing in it, but hopefully I will be able to coax my friend Andrew (one of our players and DND-N00B) to start DM-ing since he seems somewhat interested.
I decided I will post information on how our campaign is going on here, although I'm not awesome enough to write it out as a story like someone I know. Mine will simply be summaries of what has happened and the funny events that transpire.
The majority of my campaign will (most likely) take place in the massive Steampunk city of Freedom's Gate. Once a haven for those who which to escape religious tyranny along with those who wish to research their technology in peace, Freedom's Gate is now an anarchy-stricken city where criminals and mad-scientists run free; i.e. the perfect place for adventurers. And interesting adventurers there are!
Dartak the 3rd, Kobold Tinkerer (Played by Tom)
Dartak is a kobold trapsmith, hailing from a large mine deep in the Frontier. After being kicked from his mine due to the douchy actions of a fellow kobold, he now seeks Grimtooth, his teacher and master, who owns a trapstore in Freedom's Gate. Dartak is fueled by his passion for traps and other technology, and wishes to be a world renowned trapsmith. *He also despises gnomes with a deep passion, and sees Ark as both a nemesis and friendly rival.
Tom's character is very eccentric, yet is the most emotionally centered characters in the campaign (no doubt because Tom has actually roleplayed before, unlike pretty much everyone else)
Ark, Gnome Artificer (Played by Zac)
The first thing Ark remembers is being thrown off an airship as a child, and being rescued by a wandering tribe called the Fallen Devout. Throughout their travels Ark became interested in both technology and magic, mixing them together into hybrid, magitech-esque, tools that can do pretty much anything. His goal is to start a business in Freedom's Gate as well as learn of his past and what happened on that airship.
Zac's character is the mad scientist of the group, quickly ignoring combat to scrabble down ideas on anything he can find, be it walls, newspapers, or his own arm. Although he is the least capable in combat, he has been the most successful, which is quite depressing for the other players.
Dadelus*, Human Engineer (Played by Andrew)
Dadelus was once an airship mechanic for his father's massive company, but that was quickly taken away from him when a mysterious religious group killed his father and destroyed the company. He has vowed to find this group and enact revenge on the terrible things that they have done.
*It took me a few hours before I realized his name was making fun of his lack of a dad. I felt so stupid.
Andrew's character has a very interesting trait when it comes to speaking. Due to the heavy stress his Dadelus (and Andrew) were put through due to a gun to the head, Dadelus seems to babble-on when trying to speak, for the enjoyment of me and the other players.
Rock, Dwarf Cannon Mage (Played by Stephen)
Rock was a dwarf miner, until his parents were killed by a mysterious religious zealot known as Grayson. Rock is very quiet and tends to keep to himself, but the rest of the party can't help but to force him into awkward situations and watch him squirm.
Stephen's character, when first written, was based completely off the idea of apathy, so much to the point that I got angry (which rarely happens) and forced Stephen to at least try to create a character. And he finally did. His character is also suppose to be awesome at combat, but I'm convinced that his dice have never rolled higher that a 5 (on the d20), so he is pretty horrible.
Simon, Human Inquisitor (Played by Luigi)
Simon is a bounty hunter who was once part of an underground religious group, acting like Van Helsing, if you will. The group was destroyed by a religious group known as the "Black Fang," and Simon has vowed to destroy the black fang.
Luigi's character is the only character in the campaign that is based on magic instead of technology, but I don't think he will last for long. After spending the first half of the session barely speaking and playing pokemon on his gameboy, he left early for a "short" club meeting and never returned. The rest of the group has decided that they will most likely kill off his character, although they will give him a chance to redeem himself.
Wow that was a long post, and I haven't even gone over the 1st session yet. Damn!
"Did you know there are five ways to say dinosaur, and none of them are Thesaurus?"
You didn't describe my characters back story. Now how will I remember what ever it was that I said ( I just kinda winged it). lol. Maybe I will DM just gotta learn how to play the game first. Knowing the rules is kind of a prerequisite to running a game.
ReplyDeleteKinda is an understatement...
